In 2026, NIHPA is excited to celebrate our

50th Annual Harvest Festival!

We will be hosting a “Battle of the Brands” where all makes and models of tractors, engines, farm equipment, and memorabilia are welcome.  There will be competitions for the most exhibits of any one brand, the rarest, the oldest, and other fun contests!

Our club’s first annual event was in 1977, so we will be celebrating all year long with 50th anniversary events.

Sunset Hill Farm County Park

began as a fully functional farm and private residence, purchased by Colonel Robert Heffron Murray in 1934. The original property consisted of 80 acres, and produced dairy, eggs, and broilers.  The property continued to grow, until it reached its current size of 238 acres. After Colonel Murray passed away in 1972, his estate donated the land to Porter County. Now, thousands of people enjoy Sunset Hill Farm County Park every year thanks to his generous legacy.

NIHPA has been partnering with Porter County Parks since 1989 to do demonstration farming and maintain the farm buildings.

Northern Indiana Historical Power Association (NIHPA)

Our organization promotes the preservation, restoration, and demonstration of antique farm equipment. Our main focus is on tractors, steam engines, and gas-powered stationary engines along with antique plowing, planting, and harvesting equipment. These pieces of equipment began their lives as a way of making a living and now NIHPA has begun using them as an educational avenue for younger generations to come as a preservation of power.
