Participation at NIHPA Sponsored Events
Whether exhibiting only or participating, we are pleased to have you at our NIHPA- Fall Harvest Festival. To help ensure that everyone has an enjoyable, as well as a safe time, we have included a summary of our rules for your general information.
General Rules:
- Use common sense and courtesy at all times.
- Shirt and shoes must be worn at all times when on the grounds. No exceptions.
- The sale, possession or consumption of alcohol beverages is prohibited.
- No smoking in fuel storage areas, during refueling or around straw stacks or other readily flammable items.
- There shall be no excessive gasoline leaks on any equipment.
- There shall be no unprotected sprockets, extended flywheel keys or other attachments to the crankshaft or any turning shaft that would be considered to be unsafe or hazardous.
- All moving equipment shall be operated in a safe and conscientious manner with due regard for the safety of others.
- Riders on any equipment pulled by a tractor must be in plain view of the operator and/or designated assistant.
- Equipment shall be pulled in a safe manner. No heavy pulling with chains or cables are permitted in the presence of spectators.
- No one under the age of 16 shall operate tractors or other motorized propelled equipment.
- No machine is to be refueled while running
- There shall be no riders on any tractor that does not have a specific area designated for a passenger (such as a driving platform, step or additional seat). There will be no riders on fenders or drawbars.
- All incidents and injuries MUST be reported to the NIHPA booth, and an incident form MUST be filled out.
- All ashes must be dumped cool and contained in ash pans provided.
- Steam engines are powered by fire and boiling water. They produce sparks, hot ash, steam and boiling water. Please use extreme caution around these pieces of equipment.
- Some old tractors have very little braking ability, if any. Please use extreme caution and give these awesome machines their space.
Stationary Operating Rule:
- All operating stationary engines and equipment shall be roped off.
- Belts connecting machinery to a power source shall be roped off or fenced and all P.T.O. shafts must be shielded.
- Threshing machines, husker-shredders and other similar equipment shall have at least one supervisor watching overall operations and spectators at all times.
- Whenever a tractor or other power source is operating a machine, using a belt or a shaft, an operator must be in control of the power unit at all times.
- All operators and engineers shall use common sense and courtesy when operating equipment.
